Camper trip to Oregon and back, 2011

Great Basin National Park. It took most of a day to get this far. We had no reservations and were glad to find such an excellent place to camp. It was just me and Olivia. She was 18.
First thing in the morning, we headed to the cavern for the guided tour. These things are awesome, guided tours of caverns, that is.
Yes I do love stuff like this.
Read the sign. It’s pretty desolate for a long way. The hills have eyes.
Late diner dinner in Susanville, CA. We found a place to camp. It looked great, but as soon as we opened the door we were swarmed by mosquitoes.
Mt Lassen National Park. The road was still closed due to an overabundant spring snowfall.
A photographer happened to be there when the mountain exploded in 1915.
Crescent City, CA
Jedediah Smith State Park, CA . This is another place I return to over and over.
Stout Grove (where I spent a night in my old VW camper in 1973 with some hippies)
Boy Scout Tree Trail. Former First Class Boy Scout patrol leader pretending to hold up giant tree.
Fern Falls
The Boy Scout Tree. It’s five miles round trip. I’ve hiked it several times since this trip, most recently last May. The whole way you are in old growth Redwood and Douglas fir.
These cool dudes made it happen.
Finally my beloved Oregon Coast. Pure magic.
Bullard Beach, OR
The Luna Sea in Yachats. I have eaten here every year since it opened – eleven years.
In Yachats, we met up with the rest of the gang. We rented a two level house on the waterfront. There were 16 of us: my family and our friends, the Comorfords.
All of my daughters and grandchildren (one – still only have one)
My amazing cousin, Roseanne and her family came down to join us for a few days. Roseanne passed away lat summer at the age of 84. She was a beautiful person.
Hiking in Cape Perpetua National Scenic Area
We hiked up from down there.
refreshing
on the drive back to Colorado – it takes 20 hours.
