LOU 1000. Live Oak. Very rare. I got this with a huge collection in Louisiana in 2001. The collection included hundreds of pieces. This was the only live oak. The rest was palm. This specimen has a full page in Ancient Forests, page 72. The cell structure is amazing. It’s a stunning piece. When I photographed it for the book, it was flawless. Sadly, since then it broke in half. I didn’t break it. It has been professionally repaired. If you compare it with the picture in the book, it looks identical. You can see the fault line in both the before and after images. Because it was such a rare log, the cutter cut it extra thin. Too thin. I would have included it in my final collection but for the repair. I am offering it at a substantially reduced price than I would have if it had not been repaired. 12 by 18 cm polished face; 8 mm thick; 11 ounces. $400

FJD LOU 1007. Nice study piece. Extra nice Flatwoods specimen cut to display common features. One end natural; one end cut; one side cut, and one side as found, which is a common occurrence for palm wood due to the lengthwise support system comprising vascular bundles which tend to cleave along the long axis, frequently resulting in an attractive, druzy mineralization as here. 14.5 by 7.5 cm polished end; 5 by 10 cm polished side; one pound and fifteen ounces. $125
