PW903. Baccarat Museum Piece (circa 1900-1930s). This is a well-made, large, Baccarat pansy weight from the early 20th Century. It seems that Baccarat produced these from about the beginning of the century and into the 1930s, undoubtedly with a pause for World War I. I suppose therefore I cannot say if this was made in France or Germany, since the region that is home to the Baccarat glassworks was part of Germany prior to the end of the war, although France is certainly more likely. At any rate, this is a fine example. Of all the various paperweights produced by Baccarat during that period, the pansy weights were most true to the weights of the Classical Period of 1845-160 – the only significant difference in the case of this weight is the color of the petals- this is more butterscotch and the older ones were more yellow. The execution of this one is excellent. The lampwork is nicely done and is not as thick as it was in some of the pansy weights of this period. The dome is in very good condition, close to perfect, with no spalls or other significant issues. The base is flat with some shelfwear and wear to the edges. 3 inch diameter; 2 inches tall; one pound, four ounces. $500

PW1528. Baccarat Antique Museum Piece Pansy. Type 3. The flower and bud are well made and nicely composed. Star cut flat base. This weight is very good original condition. If you inspect it carefully you will see signs of use, a few light scratches on the surface, a few tiny flea bites at the base, light shelf wear – however, because it appears to be original condition with minimal issues, it is a more prized collector piece. 2 13/16 inch diameter; 1 13/16 inches tall; one pound. $400
