paperweights: Baccarat, France – KYOTO (dawn in a Japanese garden)

PW2611. Collection of Gardens of the World: KYOTO, a Japanese Garden. Baccarat Modern Super Magnum Pedestal Museum Piece 2000 Limited Edition of 30 – NUMBER 6. This paperweight is pictured in Baccarat Paperweights: Two Centuries of Beauty by Paul Dunlop on page 243. Condition is excellent/perfect, as if you walked into the finest store in Paris 22 years ago. The weight is bright and colorful with a foot bridge that takes the viewer into a sunset, lotus blossoms, and other lovely adornments, all in a well-balanced, beautifully executed piece. Limited edition of 30 and numbered 6/26 along with 2000 for the year and etched with the Baccarat logo and engraved Baccarat on the base. This and the few other large pedestal weights Baccarat make in their waning years are testament to the skill and breath of talent of the great paperweight artists at Baccarat – the artisans skills had been building since the 1950s and now, in what they must have known or suspected to be one of their final years of production, out of spite and pride came, these few amazing masterpieces. Each is an important piece in art glass history. Comes with box and certificate of authenticity –the box is very large to accommodate this very large glass sculpture – the box is 8 ¾ inches tall by 7 ¼ by 7.
