In my opinion modern Baccarat closepacks (concentric or not) and carpet grounds (a closepack style) comprise some of the finest representations of these forms ever made. While these modern Baccarats may not be as rare as the 19th Century versions, they are still quite rare and far more normally found in fine original condition than are the antiques. I included gridels in these pages because they are often closepacks as well.
PW1771. Rare Baccarat 1971 Star cane ten row concentric. One-of-a-kind. An elegant weight with perfect stars, crisp canes, a marvelously perfectly centered mandala, and a nice touch in the final row with blue stars and green circles facing cheerily outward, comprising a drawn-in stave basket. 1971 B cane in setup. Flat base etched with logo; engraved 1971 and 220 (it was the 220th weight they made that year). PW2667. Baccarat 1972 stunning zodiac carpet ground in yellow. Each yellow cane has a white center which gives it a lighter appearance. Drawn-in staves. Cane “B1972” in the closepack. Etched with the Baccarat logo on the base and engraved “438” and “1972”. 3 3/16 inch diameter; 2 1/4 inches tall; one pound and seven ounces. Condition is excellent, like new. $550

PW3127. Baccarat Magnum 1976 Monkey Man Gridel Cane limited edition. Elaborately-constructed, seven-row concentric closepack with seventeen small gridel canes and a big chubby monkey man in the center, over an opaline ground. Etched with the Baccarat logo on the base and engraved “157” and “1976”. Signature cane “B1976” in the cane work. 3 3/8 inch diameter; 2 3/8 inches tall; one pound and eleven ounces. Condition is excellent with slight shelfwear. $475
