PW962. RARE Baccarat 1958 (1970) Zodiac Church Weight Museum Piece. Fabulous, classic, colorful, intricate closepack. An amazingly intricate piece of glass art. The Baccarat closepacks from 1958 are interesting and quite rare. I have handled more Baccarat weights than you can imagine, always paying special attention to the church weights. They made a good number of different batches and made them in years after 1958, still using an 8-cane to distinguish them from the antiques. This is a good example of that fact as it includes the 8 cane as well as a 1970 date cane. We see 8-cane zodiac/church weights in a variety of color schemes, cane types, and setups. The Baccarat logo is etched into the base. The canes include all the signs of the zodiac– they did this so they would not be confused with their antique closepacks – as well as an “8” cane for 1958. The quality of these are superior to the 19th century weights. The canes are diverse and the colors are exceptionally rich with warm colors, providing the look of a flower garden on a sunny day. The dome of canes is uniform. 3 3/16 inch diameter; 2 inches tall; one pound and five ounces. Condition is excellent – amazing for a sixty-year-old piece of glass art – it’s as if you bought it in PAris in1970. $750
